Back when, motels had a bad name as seedy, hot pillow joints. The hoity toity stayed in hotels if they had any pretense to polite society. So, to promote his perfectly respectable motel, the Colonel built a mock motel room inside the cafe.
To get mom to examine it, he put the Ladies washroom therein, thus forcing Madame to see that the room was alright for family use. It propelled his motel to early success.
